Seasonal Advice - June 2008

Welcome to the June edition of the Monthly Mineral Clinic. Featured this month are some topical and also lesser known products that you may not be aware are available from us. Read on for more information…

Balance deficiencies in summer grazing

Easi-Graze is a trace element and energy rich liquid feed, designed to complement the higher levels of protein found in early summer grazing. Easi-Graze contains a rich source of protected elements, such as high levels of “Smart Zinc” to help reduce somatic cell counts and “Special Copper” to aid fertility and improve coat condition, on a high sugar base to help fuel rumen activity. Easi-Graze is suitable for all classes of cattle, as it supports good growth, condition and performance. Also available with “Crina” option (see below for benefits).

Increase stock “Bloom”

“Sunshine in a bag”, is how Thrivon Plus has been described. Enriched with cod liver oil, this all-round performance booster is ideal for all livestock, particularly prior to sale or show. Thrivon Plus has a comprehensive range of vitamins and minerals, to improve health and “bloom”.

Pre-tupping preparation

Many may be thinking about tupping time, but have you thought about your nutrition regime yet? We recommend offering Tub S (Sheep) or Tub SF (Sheeps Feet) out to your ewes now to raise their mineral status before introduction of your tupping-specific products. This will help to avoid ‘binging’ and give a better all round performance. Tub S is a concentrated mineral source to balance normal grazing and alternatively you have Tub SF which is based on Tub S, but with added high levels of “Smart Zinc” and biotin to help harden hoof structure, a must prior to tupping.

And what about your Ram?

The ram is probably the most expensive animal in the flock, but the one that is nutritionally ignored the most. That is why we have produced Tub RAM. It is a multi-function product, and finds a place with young or old, pedigree or commercial rams. Magnesium free, with anionic salts and Smart Zinc, it is formulated to stimulate reproductive organs for the tupping period and to encourage good development in growing rams. There is also an inclusion of nutrients that are key to hoof integrity, another important factor to consider, a lame ram will not work! Make available to rams at least 8 weeks before working.

Worried about bloat or grass scorch?

Tub Crina is a unique, high specification performance tub, suitable for all cattle systems where maximum stock performance is the aim. It contains Crina, Yeast-Ex, myco-binder and anti-frothing ingredients and surfactants, as well as a comprehensive vitamin and mineral package. These all combine to improve rumen function, reduce the incidence of acidosis, prevent bloat and generally increase output from your herd, be it milk yield or daily live weight gain. (Crina is also available as a liquid feed option, please see above).
