Welcome to our July Mineral Clinic. We have been hearing a mixed bag of problems experienced this year, please read on to see if you can relate to any of the problems other farmers have been encountering...
Tupping Preparation
Early lambing flocks will soon be put to the tup. The only way to ensure optimum fertility is to have ewes on a rising plane of nutrition. An available energy & key trace element balance is important at this time which will help aid successful fertilisation and implantation of the fertilised ova. Both TUB ST and StokBlok Energy contain energy to stimulate ovulation and high levels of trace elements to assist conception and implantation. TUB ST has the added ingredient Orvec Stimulus to help stimulate sexual activity.
Foot Problem?
There are many certainties in life – and one of them is that wet weather brings its fair share of feet problems for sheep. Good management is essential and should be backed up with a sound nutrition programme. We recommend feeding TUB SF (Sheeps Feet) which contains ingredients that promote strong hoof growth, which makes them less susceptible to picking up infection. If fed in conjunction with Sheeps Feet Footbath as part of a foot management programme, they will help to improve the health of your flock’s feet.
Cell Count Rise?
Many of our mineral clinic calls have been about the rise in cell counts. If you have checked all possible husbandry causes, this rise may be due to low levels of essential trace elements, in particular Zinc & Selenium. There are several ways of improving your herd’s trace element levels; the most popular this time of year appears to be the use of Sel-Count tablets in the water troughs. If your cows have access to other water sources, consider using our TUB CP (Cattle Protected), DAIRY SCC / FEET (bagged mineral), or if using one of our liquid feeds, add the BIO SELENIUM & SMART ZINC options.
